_
Can civilians buy body armor? When we shop, we always go for
quality. And by knowing the quality, we are always eager to know the materials used
of that certain thing or product that we are planning to buy. This is always
the same situation that most people have experienced when buying something. So by
that, those civilians buying body armor must also take into consideration the
materials used in the body armors and its advantages and the disadvantages,
also.
The most standard fabric used for making bullet proof vests is the woven Kevlar. It is ballistic-resistant material. It came out of the research by Stephanie Kowek on high performance chemical compound. This paved the way for more advancement on synthetic fiber. This is sturdy and tensile making it an effective material and protector against projectiles. However, there are also disadvantages. The cost production is high making it expensive. Due to this advancement, there are also other fibers that were discovered to use for soft body armor. Examples of these are Zylon and Dragon Skin. Ceramics is another material used for the body armor. a specific ceramics is used and it is called alumina. This is a very resistant and robust material thus making it a number one material used for long-lasting body armor. However, there are not many manufacturers of alumina. Metal plates are also used for the production of body armor. They are long-lasting material. Though they can very successfully ward off bullets and stabbings, the disadvantage is on the wearer, they are very heavy making comfort an option for the wearer. Knowing the right kind of body armor for civilians requires understanding the materials being used to produce that body armor. And knowing this information will surely give the wearer an idea what to buy and the perfect product for him or her. |
